Unplugged Canada - Take the Pledge to Delay Smartphones Until Grade 8!

Image
We are excited to share an important initiative with Keele families called Unplugged Canada . This movement, started by parents in our community, is designed to raise awareness about the negative impacts of smartphones on children and provide strategies to delay their use. Unplugged Canada helps parents come together to make it the norm for children not to have smartphones until at least the end of Grade 8. Parents are invited to sign a pledge to delay giving their kids smartphones. By acting collectively, we can reduce social pressures, make it easier to set boundaries, and create a culture where kids feel supported in staying unplugged. The pledge is focused specifically on smartphones. Children can still use basic phones for calls and texts. The pledge is anonymous and only becomes active when five families from the same grade at the same school have signed, so that kids feel supported by their peers. Parents can pledge for children as young as kindergarten through age 14. This i...

Fruit Bowl Volunteers

Image
Keele St. P.S. keeps a fruit bowl in the front office for students to help themselves to in case they forget their lunch or need an extra snack. Any student, for whatever reason, may help themselves! It's a very popular initiative at the school. We love offering it to our students and it's very well-received.  Keele has a wonderful new snack program for this year, but there has always been strong demand for our fruit bowl, so we have decided to continue it. If we find that it is not being used as much alongside the new snack program, we will make adjustments. You can volunteer to purchase and bring in fruit for the school to keep the fruit bowl going!  Please click on the link to the Google doc below to sign up to bring in fruit for one (or more!) weeks during the school year.*  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MBLMnqEFv2MkPzEqn_iPGw7fUoHBrY0H_3IUnTzawLY/edit?tab=t.0 Thank you to all who volunteer to help bring in fresh food for those who need it! * Please bring in a v...
