Our first School Council meeting is next Tuesday!
The first KEELE SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING of the year:
Tuesday, September 29
6:30-8:00 PM
in the library & on Zoom*
ALL ARE WELCOME!!!
What will happen at the meeting?
At every meeting, we will all introduce ourselves and get to know each other. We will hear from the Principal and a primary, junior, and intermediate teacher about what’s happening in their classrooms and at the school. We will also discuss events, activities, and anticipated needs in the months ahead.
At the first meeting of the year (next Tuesday!!) we will also set the budget for the year and elect the 2026-2027 council. All roles are available, from Chair to voting members-at-large.
We will have a babysitter to engage kids in another room so you can focus on the meeting. If your child would prefer to sit with you and observe, they are welcome to.
Parents and community members are encouraged to bring their questions and ideas to the meeting! If you have a particular topic you’d like to see on the agenda, it’s best if you email keeleadvisorycouncil@gmail.com ahead of time so we can make sure there’s time for you.
What Does Keele School Council Do?
School Councils are mandated by the Ontario government to support student achievement and parent engagement within the school.
Through the School Advisory Council (SAC, frequently called 'School Council' or 'Parent Council'), Keele families, staff, and community members come together to support our kids!
School Council hosts open meetings 4 times a year where parents, staff, and community members get together to discuss priorities and plans for the school. We also communicate regularly through email and our blog (https://keelestreetpublicschool.blogspot.com/).
During the 2025-2026 school year, Keele School Council led the following:
- Fall Fun Fair - our largest fundraiser and our biggest party! Pizza days - a fundraiser and a chance to skip making lunch!
- Biweekly Friday lunches from Pizza Pizza, delivered to every classroom.
- Winter gear and Halloween costume gear swap - Have a winter jacket, boots, or a princess dress your family has outgrown? Drop them at the office starting mid-October. The following week, we’ll set up a ‘market’ before and after school where Keele families can pick out stuff they need for the season ahead.
- Food & bake sales at school concerts - The Winter and Spring concerts happen over dinner time! Pizza, drinks, and baked goods will be sold in the library before and after both shows.
- Holiday pop-up shop - We gather new and gently used goods taking up space in your home and give them new life in the Holiday pop-up shop, where each class will have a chance to shop for holiday gifts for their families–and everything costs a quarter!
- Glow in the Dark dance - A free after-school event with a DJ and a thousand glowsticks!
- Movie night - An after-school fundraiser in the gym. Bring your blanket and your appetite for popcorn!
- Support for staff-led events and fundraisers (i.e. Play Day, grade 8 grad trip silent auction) whenever we can.
All of these events are volunteer run,
and we need your help if we want to do them again!
School Council is as powerful as the energy of its members, so we encourage you to think about activities or events you might like to lead or support! Have an idea, or just want to get on our drop-in volunteer list? Email keeleadvisorycouncil@gmail.com!
We hope to see you Tuesday!!
* Zoom link will be sent the morning of the September 29
